Question: 1996 Dodge Intrepid, 175,000 miles. About a month ago while waiting for the traffic light to change, the oil warning light started flickering. The oil was only one third low. 20W50 oil was added which did stop the flickering. It is now a month since the oil was added and is now back to flickering and then turning solid red while idling. However, once the pressure is applied to the accelerator to start moving when the traffic light changes to green, the oil light warning disappears. In checking the oil level, the dipstick it is still over 2/3 full. Does the fuel pump need replacing or is there a clog in the fuel system?

When you see the light come On does the engine make noise-thudding and thumping like noise?

The fuel pump involves in the fuel system not in the lubrication system. Get an oil pressure tester-remove the oil sending unit and hook it up and read off the oil pressure if its normal replace the oil sending unit.
