1996 Dodge Intrepid

About two weeks ago my vechilebegan running at a high idle. The MPH needle would read between one and two, the vechile only runs at a high idle while in park reverse and neutral. When in drive the shifts back to low (makes a lower sounding idle). I am wondering if you could give some suggestions to why this may be happening or know the cause.

Hi:
Has the check engine light come on? It sounds like either the idle air control valve or throttle position sensor is the problem, but I can't be sure without a code.
