have you ever heard of a timing chain breakingi on a 02 durango, and if so approx what would a repair like this run in cost?

Yes, it is odd, but they do break. To replace one I would est. around 500.00. Based on where you live, that price could be higher or lower. Note: The majority of cost is labor.
