Engine problem
2003 Dodge Dakota V6 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 90000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 2003 Dodge Dakota that is leaking water/coolant under the middle of the engine. We have replaced the water pump and checked all the hoses but water still continues to leak from the side of the water pump. Any suggestions on where else to look? The leak is coming from the same spot as the old water pump. The truck has not over heated but I am worried about driving it until we figure out where the leak is coming from.

Hi there,

did you make sure that you cleaned all the old gasket when you replaced the water pump, a small amount of old gasket left on the engine can cause it to leak quite badly

We made sure all of the old gasket was removed before putting on the new on. Could leaking be caused from somewhere else near the water pump?

hi there, as i am not in the USA and we don't have that vehicle here, i am looking it up on a mechanical data base so the exact engine size would be a great help.

I was stuck in West Virginia, and I live in Maine, with this problem.
A. Make sure the old gasket was NOT on there
B. Make sure USE gasket sealer
C. Make sure you WAIT before you drive.

First time I put the pump on, water gushed everywhere - we forgot to scrape the gasket....then we ripped it off and put sealer on there, it still ****ed out of the pump.
We tightened some bolts on the pump, and the leak stopped.
