how important is it to have the exact size (recommended size) of oil filter for one's vehicle? would a 1/2 inch difference in length significantly change the oil pressure in the engine?

Hi there,

as long as the filter fits correctly, there is not a real problem in how big it is, some vehicles use small oil filters just for access reasons only, all that is affected is the amount of filter surface area available to clean the oil, this is not a big problem if you service your engine regularly, it has no bearing on oil pressure at all.
