Have wildly different costs for upper/lower ball joints and I am looking for a fair ballpark figure for their replacement. Thank you for any help with this.

If you are replacing all 4 ball joints, here is the break down:

Labor per side (2/ea per side) = left 2.8 hours
right 2.8 hours

TOTAL LABOR 5.6 hours x labor rate
Parts:
upper ball joint = 28.99 each (aftermarket)

lower ball joint = 53.99 each (aftermarket)

I wasn't able to find the factor part price. The prices I got were from a nationally recognized parts store.

Here are the directions if you want to do it yourself.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Dakota, Durango 2WD

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the tire.
3. Remove the caliper, rotor, shield and ABS speed sensor, if fitted.
4. Remove the tie rod from the steering knuckle arm.
5. Remove the hub/bearing.
6. Remove the shock absorber.
7. Compress the coil spring.
8. Remove the upper ball joint nut and separate the ball joint from the knuckle.
9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the ball joint nut to 60 ft. Lbs. (81 Nm). Use a new cotter pin.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.
