I was recently told by a mechanic that belt dressing and condistioner was not good for serpentine drive belts. Is this true nowadays? I have a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan with 90,000 on it.

If your haveing trouble with the belt comeing off, then it is the tensioner or idler pully. I use Gates belts because they are ribbed on the flat side. And if you tell me it's the first time the belt has been replaced then you have been very lucky. I wouldn't use the belt dressing. It is ment for v-belts. Good luck vandragon

With all the miles on it, it could be anything that runs off the belt. The guy that does the work on your van could be rolling the belt on or missing just getting it one grove off which could make it happen.
Also go here and look at all the ideas.
