I have a 2000 Grand Caravan with 140,000 miles. I noticed my oil light comes on. The van has plenty of oil. However I have a broken hose. I don't know what it is called but it runs from the place where the air filter is housed to the engine block. I wanted to know if this is a vacuum hose, what it does, and if this could be the cause of the oil light being on. The car does not seem to run hot or smoke. Thank you.

First off there is some reason the oil light is coming on. A bad sending unit, a shorted wire or worst low oil presser and the oil pump going out! Buy a oil pressure gauge and hook it up and see what it reads? If your van has a 3.3 V-6 the oil Pressure switch is right up front next to the oil filter, unscrew the oil sending unit and screw the gauge in and start the van and see what it reads. Cold it should read 40-60 psi If you do not want to take that job on. Take it to a shop and have them check it with there gauge and see what it says.
Do this tomorrow, you need to find out what your oil Pressure reading is ASAP ! That hose should have nothing to do with the light coming on.
Let me know what the Pressure is. I hope I have helped
