I was driving along and the engine light came on after it felt like I had a flat tire but its the motor losing power and sputtering

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

I had a simular problem except the check engine light came on after driving a few blocks trying to figure out what the problem was.
After getting a diagnostic test it turns out I needed a tune up, spark plug # 6 in the front of the engine was bad
