2001 Dodge Caravan not sure if this is electrical or transm

When I start my van the gear box lights are ll on PRND etc.. If it put the vehicle in gear and there is only one box around the correct gear there are no problems but if they all stay on the van will not shift out of 1st gear and I have to let the car warm up, shut it off and restart it and try again. If the weather is warm I do not have a problem at all

I have seen this happen and it was usually a computer data problem. The van uses many and they use information from the vswitch on your transmission to light the proper selection. The only way to test it is with a scan tool. There is a plug that connects the gear selector switchb to the trans controller, that may have come off, but theres a few things involved, its best to bring it in to a shop, see the 'site menu', it tells you about how it works. Your trans is in limp in mode(2nd gear only). Hope its nothing big. I doubt it.
