The car can only go up to 25 - 30 mph. The engine revs up but car does not switch to a higher gear.

Im guessing that the problem would be the transmission. But hope that is not the problem:( Maybe try shifting manually but get the car checked out and shop around for a resonable shop but as far as I know that would most likely be the problem.

Hello,

Your are in what is called Limp Mode. Which the vehicle goes into when there is a problem with something to do with the tranny, a sensor, selonoid or the computer, so you can get it somewhere to be looked at.

Is your check engine light on? If so have codes pulled, your local auto zone will do it free.

I will say in my experience with this situation it has been either the Input and/or the Output speed sensors or the Tranny Computer.

Post codes here.
