I have a 1997 dodge avenger that has 229,000miles but runs like a champ. I have had it scanned many times and it pulls up the egr. When the car went in to the shop to replace a radiator and thermostat, they had said it was stuck open cuz I have a cel that stays on. Now the car has a rough idle, wants to die when stopping at a light or stop sign. And just yesterday when I went to start it, it started but then died. We pushed on the gas to get it to start but it drained my battery. We then charged it and got it to start but when you take your foot off the gas it dies. Before I buy any parts im trying to figure out if its the vacuum on the egr or do I just buy a new egr valve

That is a pricey part. So check the vacuum and the EGR solenoid before replacing the actual EGR valve (which should come with a new solenoid). Sometimes, you can clean the valve with some carb cleaner to remove carbon deposit. Just don't spray directly to the diaphragm.
