I accidentally burned the original transponder key to my car. Inside the chip had melted and is no longer of use. I recently purchased a new blank transponder key from Walmart for $65.00. How can I program this key to work without an original transponder key to program it from? Shouldn't the car be able to program the key after a certain sequence of events such as security access or things I don't know about? I do not have the money to go to a dealer ship or locksmith and spend more money, and I don't know what else to do. My family and I are poor and this is the only car we have and I don't know what to do. Please help with advice? Thank you so much. Sincerely Ford Taurus lover commission mark.

Good morning,

Unfortunately, you need special equipment to program the key. Ford has made it that only Ford techs or locksmiths can perform this as long as they has security credentials.

I attached the process below but your best bet is a locksmith that can come to you and do it on site.

Roy

Special Tool(s)

NOTE:
- This procedure is used when a customer needs keys programmed into the system and does not have 2 programmed ignition keys available. This procedure is also useful when programmed ignition key(s) are lost or a new ignition switch assembly is installed, and it is desired to erase key(s) from the passive anti-theft system (PATS) memory.
- This procedure erases all programmed ignition keys from the vehicle memory and the vehicle will not start until 2 keys are programmed to the vehicle.
- Two PATS encoded keys with the correct mechanical cut must be available to carry out this procedure. One or both of them may be the customer's original keys.
- If additional keys are to be programmed, refer to Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys. If the remaining keys are with the customer and are not available with the vehicle, then instruct the customer to refer to Programming Spare Keys in the Owners Literature for instructions on programming the remaining keys. See: Antitheft and Alarm Systems > Programming and Relearning > Using Two Programmed Keys

1. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to ON.
2. Using the diagnostic tool, follow the SECURITY ACCESS to obtain security access.
3. From the diagnostic tool menu, select IGNITION KEY CODE ERASE.

4. NOTE: Do NOT select any additional commands from this menu.

Turn the ignition switch to OFF and disconnect the diagnostic tool.

5. Insert the first encoded key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the ignition switch to ON for 3 seconds.
6. Insert the second encoded key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the switch to the ON position for 3 seconds.
7. The vehicle should now start with both ignition keys

REMOTE TRANSMITTER
NOTE:When programing remote transmitters, all transmitters MUST BE programmed at the same time(maximum of 4 original and/or new transmitters). Failure to program all transmitters at the same time will render all other transmitters inoperative.

NOTE:Factory code is printed on owner's wallet card, located in glove compartment and on Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

Insert a key in ignition switch and turn from LOCK to RUN position 8 times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds) ending in RUN position. Doors will lock/unlock to confirm that programming mode has been entered.
Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any button on a transmitter. Doors will lock/unlock to confirm that remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, programming mode will exit and procedure will have to be repeated).
Repeat previous step to program additional remote transmitters. Doors will lock/unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed.
After remote transmitters have been programmed, turn ignition switch to LOCK position or wait 20 seconds. Again, doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been completed.

I replaced battery in a 2000 Taurus remote key fob. The key fob is strictly used for door lock and alarm. The battery terminal are clean and its a new battery. Do you need to do any additional steps to sync the key fob with the car after replacing the battery?

Thank you in advance for any feedback

Here is the programming procedure.

NOTE: It is necessary to have all (maximum of four original and/or new) of the remote transmitters available prior to beginning this procedure.

1. Insert a key in the ignition and turn from OFF to ON eight times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds ) with the eighth turn ending in the ON position. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that programming mode has been entered.
2. Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any button on a transmitter. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that the remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming mode will exit and the procedure will have to be repeated.)
3. Repeat the previous step to program additional remote transmitters. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed.
4. After the remote transmitters have been programmed, turn the ignition to OFF or wait 20 seconds. Again, the doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been completed.
