My car has been overheating if I’m stuck in traffic or a long line at a drive thru. I noticed the last one I had the hood open the cooling fans turn on and then off a few seconds later. Then back on and then off a few seconds later. Is this a cooling fans assembly problem or cooling fan control module problem?

Yep, you know it, the cooling fan and module need to be replaced which is done as a single unit. The PCM controls the fans so there is a slight chance that maybe giving you issues but 9 times out of 10 it will be the fan motors and module. Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes.

Okay, thank you for the reply. I am getting a scanner to double check and see if it will tell me that it is that or if its the PCM but either way I am going to order the fan and get it replaced. Do you have steps to remove and replace it?

I haven’t swapped the fan out yet but decided to get a obd2 scanner. I am testing it right now and am getting no codes but a no fault and then a yes fault reading on the live data for the coolant fan driver. Should I try replacing the relay first or just swap the cooling fan out?

There is no relay, just the control module on the fan assembly. This issue may not give you a code.
