Coolant sensor system recall

I had a recall done on installing a coolant sensor system and the day they said it was done I couldn't drive my car out of the parking lot! They said that the water pump went and what they did had nothing to do with the water pump. I had no problems whatsoever with the car overheating or any warning lights coming on. So, my question to you is, could they have possibly caused the water pump to go out when they were installing the coolant sensor system?

Hi,

When you tried driving the vehicle, what exactly happened that prompted them to replace the water pump? As far as the coolant temperature sensor is concerned, there really isn't any need to work on the water pump, so I don't feel it could be related.

However, at 13,000 miles, the pump shouldn't have failed. Do me a favor. You indicated this is a V6. That wasn't an option in 2013. They offered 3 different 4-cylinder engines. A 1.6 turbo, a 2.0 turbo, and a 2.5 non-turbo was offered. Which one does the vehicle have?

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

I'm sorry I believe it is a 2.5 non turbo engine. I drove my car about 5 feet after they installed the coolant sensor system, and the car was jumping and seemed like it was going to stall. I looked down and seen that the red over temperature light came on, I turned the car off and the mechanic took my car overnight and said that they had to burp it because it had an air bubble in it. I took my car home and within 2 days the car did the same with the warning light, so I took the car back and they said it needed a water pump and it was just coincidental that it happened after the sensor system installation. I have my car somewhere else getting the water pump put in, but it is hard for me to believe that coincidentally this just happened! I have never had that warning light come on, no smell, no steam, no leak, nothing! That's why I am so baffled and have to pay over $1,000.00 for something I don't believe that I did or that it just happened.

Hi,

I totally agree with you and your concerns. Now that I know the engine size, I have a better understanding of where the ECT is located. It is at the rear of the engine, so in general, they shouldn't have even been near the water pump. I attached a pic below of its location.

I have two questions. First, did the dealership tell you that any specific diagnostic trouble codes were retrieved indicating the ECT was bad? Also, you refer to the sensor as a "sensor system." Was it only the electronic coolant temperature sensor that was replaced? I'm not familiar with the term sensor system.

Let me know.

Joe
