Computer system removal

I want to take out the computer system in this truck. This 5.7 is in a S 10 how much rewiring well there be if any?

Did you replace the distributor?

Yes the distridutor will be replace. To a msd sytem
yes goig to use a edelbrock 600 CFM
the S 10 is a 1988

You wont need to rewire anything at all.

All you need is a ignition on a signal from the fuse box for your MSD system. Once you have that, there is no need for the computer system.

Nice conversion. I did a couple of these years ago and it worked out great. I used the holley pro jection system.

Take the harness for the computer system and just tie wrap it away from the engine. Wiring such as alternator, temp sender unit you need out of the harness but that is easy.

It was told to that I would need to buy the large in cap dis with vacuum advice. Is this true? Or can I get the small cap?

Yes, you need the big cap distributor. The small cap is for the newer cars. It is just a cam sensor not a distributor.

What year did Chevrolet start using 700R4? Did they put them behind carburetor engine's?

Hello I am Danny,

The GM 700-R4 transmission was introduced in 1982 and was used with carburetor engines to answer your question. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Just to add, I would not use the 700 transmission. That will not hold up under pressure.

I would look for a turbo 350 or a turbo 400 transmission. They are more durable for a power conversion.

My truck is just stock. Was there a computer in those truck's? If not what did they do for lock up?

Yes, there is a computer and it does control the lock up on the transmission.

That is why I suggested going to a three speed that has no computer control.

Since I am going to a carb. On this truck can I put a mech fuel pump on this engine with out a return style regalator?

Yes, and there is no regulator for a mechanical pump.

The pressure should not exceed 7 lbs of pressure. Any more than that the needle and seat will not shut off fuel and it will flood.
