My new coil for the truck measures 85 ohms in the primary. Book says 0.4 to 2 ohms. Is this a problem? Secondary measures 11,360 ohms.

Hi Leeloan,

Your numbers are a little off from what Alldata says (attached) however, they are close enough and 85 ohms is not correct per either set of numbers.

As long as your meter wasn't set to miliohms (most only have one ohms setting) then your coil has high resistance on the primary.

I would take it back and take your meter with you and measure them before you buy it. Try a different brand and you may have better luck. Usually, if it is not just a bad part, the manufacturer got the spec wrong. Like it should have been.85 ohms and they missed the decimal so they made them 85 ohms.

Let me know if you need more info. Thanks
