1997 Chrysler Town and Country compressor

Our mechanic has diagnosed the problem with the compressor and is going to see if there is a way to
disable the compressor which means no ac but that's okay; and this would be the cheapest way to go;
another mechanic disabled the compressor on an older
van we used to have and this worked; can this be done
on our 97 T&C?

On 3.3L I do not think that it can be done as the AC compressor sit above the water pump and for you to keep the water pump going in the same correct direction, you need some sort of pulley in place of the AC
