When applying the brakes to stop, the parking brake light would come on and the car would chime to let you know. When you resumed driving, the light would go out. This happened intermittently. I played with the parking brake lever but nothing happened. It is happening almost all the time now and I've noticed that the front headlights go out also. At night when you come to a stop, the headlights go out and the parking brake light comes on. When you take off, the lights come back on and the parking brake light goes out.

Wow! This is a good one. My first guess is there is a bad ground and it's causing the power to back feed. However, I question that after reading all of the post.

To start with the brake light, make sure the brake fluid is full. Let me know what you find with that. Next, check for bad ground straps that may be rusted, loose or broken.
