2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser error code 0420

My engine light just came on while driving and when I pulled over I did the turn key back 3 times and the code above showed up. Checking the error codes it says that it is the catalyst system effiency below threshold (bank1). What is that and should I be overly concerned?

IT either means the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter is bad, or the converter is bad. The o2 sensor has nothing to do with engine performance, just monitors the efficency of the catalytic converter.
