1997 Chrysler LHS check engine light stays on

Engine runs sluggish when I give it fuel. Engine starts to hesistate, sounds like its missing. I REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AND AIR FILTER and it seemed to make it worse. The engine check light didnt come on until after I changed those componets. It seemed to make the car run worse! Help me!

Recheck the work again
check for disconnected wires and or a vacuum line
cycle key on off on off on check for codes
codes will pin point what is going on and place to start
