2005 Chrysler Crossfire noise from lower end of engine

dealership said they need to replace with a short block....is this a prevalent problem with this particular model. If yes, any suggestions.

If they want to replace the engine, there must be a problem with the main or rod bearing. This isn't a normal problem with these. They could rebuild the one you have. Was the engine run low on oil?
