My car was giving codes P0340 and P0344 So I started looking at the car to see if my sensor was loose, dirty, or damaged. I noticed my serpintine belt was damaged and had come off and my alternator belt was soon to be next. I took the car in to a mechanic and was told that not only did I need all new belt (which I knew) but my harmonic balancer needed to be replaced. Could the problems with my harmonic balancer have caused the camshaft position sensor to code for errors?

What is wrong with the harmonic balancer? That is a hard part to hurt. As far as the cam sensor, it could have been damaged if the belt hit it, but the crank sensor is on the trans housing.
