I have a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe, 4x4, with 103000 miles. 5.7L, Automatic. I had a problem with it a few months ago, it started right up, I drove it 2 blocks, shut if off, and it wouldnt start about 10min later. I had it towed to the shop, they checked it out the next day, it started right up for them in the morning, the fuel pressure was at 31 and it had a strong charge. I had no problems with it since. Until today, 6/28/07. I had it in the shop for brakes and exhaust. When the work was completed it started fine, I drove it home, with no problems, I went to leave about 10 min later and it wont start. The fuel pressure seems to still be strong, and it has a good charge, There has not been any strange odors or noise. I do have duel exhaust with cats and no mufflers.

Replace your plug wires there is a tight bend in the distributor wire and it rubs on the bracket underneath it. The casing wears off and it grounds out. When the truck is cold the wire contracts and it starts. When the truck warms it expands and opens up and grounds out. Look at the wire on the bottom side you will see a very small wear mark and that should be your problem.

I have same year & model with 102,000 miles. Just started getting the "Check Engine Soon" warning on dash. Resetting (disconnecting battery) had no impact. Light came right back on after starting. Took it by dealer, it was the "ignition cable." It was cracked. They replaced it--no more light. It had been taking longer to turn over but hadn't yet refused to start like yours. If you have the original ignition cable this might be the cause.
