1996 Chevy Tahoe smokeing

My tahoe, is smokeing black at idle gas is smells rich, also has a flat spot when i hit the gas the intake gasket was done befor i got it had some one try to adjust the timming to see if thats why it.

The timing is NOT adjustable on your engine. The computer does the adjusting. The position of the distributer is adjustable and must be set with a computer scan tool capable of setting the position of it to within 2 degrees of the spec. A trip to the dealer is a must when removing the distributer -- even if the engine seems to run right.
