Tahoe just stopped running while driving down the street. Electrical seems fine. The only way to restart is to completely press gas pedal all the way to the floor and then turn the key. The car starts running very ruff and black smoke pours out of the exhaust pipe. The tohoe also will not idle and only will stay running if play with the gas pedal up and down

Hello, If your still obd1, check for codes, you can do that without a code-reader.

If your tbi are the injectors leaking gas? You should be able to look and see. How is the fuel pressure? A faulty coolant temp sensor can cause some issues?

How do I check codes without a code reader?
When an injector is leaking do I check when I here the pump working or when I am turning the engine over? The fuel pressure is good and the coolant sensor is new

If the datalink connector looks like the picture, obd1, use a jumper between the A & B terminals. Turn the key to on, no crank. The mil starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. There may be a decal under your hood, that tells you if your obd1 or obd11 compliant? On a TBI system, you can see the injector drip, once you build pressure, cycling the key on and off, should build pressure.

When I place the jumper between a-b terminals the service engine light blinks in this pattern 1 flash a pause and them 2 flashes it repeats this sequence 3 times next sequence that repeats 3 times is 3 flashes and pause with anither 3 flashes and the next 3 time repeating sequence is 4 flashes with a pause and another 5 flashes.
My question is what does these flashes represent or wher can I find out what these flashing codes mean
