2002 Chevy Suburban Key is stuck in igniition

2002 Chevy Suburban 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I tried to back up and put car in park, at first the car would not shift to park, finally it did but, the car would not release the key out of ignition. What is the problem?
