We are suddenly having problems with the sub pulling to the right while driving. My husband suspects the tie rod needs to be adjusted. The front passenger side tire is toed out farther than it should be and you have to hold the steering wheel to keep it from quickly spinning right, thus dragging the sub to the right.

Does this sound like a tie rod problem? Is there anything we should be particularly careful about when adjusting this?

Your truck should not gererally pull due to the toe being out(tie rod adjustment). Check tire pressure first. If this is not the problem, something must have changed to cause a pull so suddenly. A shop can check the front end for a reasonably low price. Also check for the left caliper being seized, causing a pull to the right.
