2000 Chevy Silverado pinging?

I have a 2000 chev. Silverado with a 6.0 v8. When I crank it I hear a rattling and then it stops.I can drive it until the engine warms to normal temp. And the rattling comes back. After it sits for a few minutes the rattle will stop for a while and SOMETIMES it will return.I am in no way familiar with newer vehicles(couldnt afford them. And found this one super cheap)If you can give me some ideas I greatly appreciate it!

Hi there,

Start with an oil flush and use a high quality filter, then get the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge I would like to see the readings for cold idle, hot idle and hot 1200 rpm's
