1993 Chevy Silverado new engine burning oil

We just installed a new marine engine in a 1993 Silverado 2500. After about 1000 miles or so the engine is burning oil like crazy. 3 or 4 quarts every 300 miles or so. I don't know if the rings didn't seat right or if something else is going on. Any way to help fix this will be greatly appreciated.

That is really bad. If there are no leaks, I would start by checking engine compression both dry and wet. That way you will be able to tell if it is related to the rings.

Do that and let me know what you find.
