1987 Chevy Silverado Two Wheel Drive Automatic 199000 miles

I drive (or drove) a 1987 Chevrolet pickup with a cracked head. I am not extensively familiar with vehicles. I replaced my starter and alternator myself, but am just graduating from college and I'm trying to decide whether the cost to fix or replace the motor entireley is feasible. Would you reccomend replacing just the head or the entire motor, and if so, what would be the "ball park" figure on the repair costs?

Hello,

Ok, first there are a few questions you should ask yourself whether to Repair or Replace.

What is the condition of the trucks body, frame and suspension? If not in great shape would it last another 5 years on more.

Next, do you know the history of the engine? Is it in good condition other than the head? If repaired would you be able to get at least 5 out of it

To repair you are looking at about $2,000

To replace you could add at least another $1,500

One other thing to concider is if you plan on keeping it or not and for how long.
