Engine Performance problem
1993 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 160000 km.

Hi there, I have a '93 S10 pickup truck 4 cyl and I'm noticing very poor fuel economy for a small engine like this. I believe I'm getting just under 200km to 42L of fuel and I've done a tune up on the engine - new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. The catalytic converter is off now and a new muffler has been put on. Any suggestions to check would be greatly appreciated!

Have you changed the fuel filter?

Also check out the o2 sensors, especially if you ever had a headgasket or intake manifold leak.

Could also be an exhaust leak or a vaccum leak causing this.

No check engien light im guessing? Tires properly inflated? New air filter?

How much decrease in mileage have you noticed, and did it gradually go down?

Thanks for the insight I have changed the air filter and fuel filter recently tire pressure etc all good and the mileage has never been good since I bought the truck only about 7-8 months ago. I haven't thought of the o2 sensors yet but I have been told that the MAP sensor may also be causing this so I will change it soon. The check engine light does come on until it warms up significantly then it goes out, I tried to pull the codes with a cheap code reader but had no luck. Recently my oil pressure guage has been dipping down to almost zero when I idle not sure what that's about.

Try taking it to an autozone they will scan it with a scanner that is not a cheap one more then likely.

You should have the map tested before replacing it as it isnt a very cheap part.
