I have an 1985 chevy scottsdale 5.7 truck 8 cyl 150,000 miles.I have been driving it for awhile and one day the gage droped and then whent back up and then droped for good. Now My oil gage is at 0. I replaced the oil filter, oil pump and put in 4 more qts of new oil after draining the old. Iam still not getting any reading on my gage and no oil to the heads. The engine starts and runs perfect.
Thank you.

Try to get a pressure gauge and check the pressure at the sending unit (any garage should be able to do this for you if you can't get a gauge). If it's good there, then your gauge might be gone(or the circuit traces in the cluster). If not, then it might just be the sending unit which are pretty cheap. I had the same thing happen to my '86 and it turned out to be just the sending unit. You should get it checked, since no oil pressure could be something "severe".[/Quote]
