Hello I have just bought a 76 nova straight six, the problem I am having is when I push on the gas the engine cuts out, but if I gently push on the gas it seems to be ok, and once it is up to speed it is fine. The car has been sitting for a few years and I have been putting carb cleaner into the gas. Do you think it could be a bad air fuel mixture, or do you think there could be something wrong with the jets?

It can be a lot of things but a carb overhaul is the best place to start along with a tune-up. That means replacing all the filters, plugs, dist cap and rotor and making sure the timing is where it is supposed to be. There are a few other things to do but this may cure your problem by doing these things.
