On the dashboard of my 2001 monte carlo ss is a toggle swith, with the off and on symbols, and no other markings. It is located to the left of the steering wheel, kind of near the trunk release button. Does anyone know what this button is or does? Originally, I never cared. However, I am trying to get my car lighters working. So, I went into the fuse panel and was going to change the fuse when I noticed that a red wire connected to that unknown switch happened to be touching the fuse that was for the lighter. I just want to reconnect that switch wire where it is supposed to go and get my lighter ports working.

Hello, I just looked at your owners manual, I still don't know? Is it an oem switch or aftermarket? Right now it sounds like somebody added that switch for some reason? Went to the cig fuse for voltage. The other wire coming off the switch goes somewhere? If the wire is just stuck under the fuse leg, take it loose, double check that it isn't hot. Make sure everything works and go on with the liter diagnostics.

I just wanted to add, I looked at your fuse box. There is an auxiliary power supply that gets feed from the cig fuse. Not sure if that is related to the toggle?
