Engine Performance problem
1988 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl Automatic 190000 miles

When I accelerate my car seems to hesitate and appears to be rattling under the hood. Once I take my foot off the gas it stops but later starts again. If I turn my air conditioner off it also helps with the hesitation.

Has the check engine light come on? Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Is it under the hood or under the car?

The check engine soon light comes on and goes off from time to time, sometimes right after the hesitation and the noise seems to be coming from under the hood, the lower part maybe on the drivers side near the tires I think.

If the check engine light came on, chances are there is a code stored in the computer. Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have the scan the computer for codes. Most stores will do it for free, so there is no money out of pocket and it may identify the problem.
