2003 Chevy Malibu "check engine" light accompanie

2003 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Automatic 30,500 miles

purchased vehicle 18 months ago, mileage 9,000.
mileage now 30,500 - primary use is to and from
work, a distance of 3 miles each way. Last Friday
after driving approximately 4 miles, the "check engine"
light came on accompanied by a mild missing.
This only lasted for a minute or two and the
light went off and the miss disappeared. Have driven the car since then without any problem.
put a new air cleaner in at about 27,500 miles.

took in to GM dealership - they say that the problem is a fuel injecter or the fuel injecter terminal.

is this a common problem with the 2003 Malibu?
are there other things to try first (such as fuel filter)
before having a $375.00 repair?
