I am the unhappy owner of a 2001 Chevy Malibu 3100. This car just seems to have one problem after another. The car has approx. 60xxx miles on it.

My car has been having horrible hesitation issues. The car seems to hesitate more when im going up hills. I was told that a dirty fuel filter may be to blame- so I am putting a new one in this weekend.

Well the car has been hesitating even more (flat roads and downhills when pressing the accelerator). I turned onto a highway and pressed the accelerator pretty hard to get in with traffic- my RPM's went up, but the car hardly moved. Know the hesitation feels like the trans is not switching gears correctly.

It seems that whenever I push hard on the accelerator my problem goes away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ive changed the air cleaner, pcv valve, spark plugs, ive cleaned the intake manifold, there are no exhaust leaks, and there are no engine codes.

thanks bill

Hi Bill: My father has a 99' malibu with a 3100 engine, and is having the exact same problem as you are. We've tried to swap almost every sensor, changed spark plugs, and wires, changed the fuel pump, and the filter. We get no codes either. If you find out anything please let us know. If I find out anything I'll pass the info along to you.

Thanks.

I had similar problem, not as bad though. Hesitation/jerking on uphill run. Run fine under hard acceleration.
I cleaned MAF sensor and it's fine now. Be careful not to damage the sensor 'hot' wires. You could use curb cleaner.
