Noises problem
2001 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Hey,
Hoping someone here can answer this. For about 5 months my Malibu has been having difficulty accelerating - I have to accelerate a lot (resulting in a high RPM) before it gets up to speed on highways (I was told it was a spark plug/spark plug wiring problem, but replacing all of them didn't fix it). Anyway, yesterday, I was trying to get up to speed and I pressed on the accelerator real hard and it made a high-pitched whining noise. The noise goes away when I let off the accelerator and increases the harder I press on the accelerator. Any ideas?

Ouch. Is there anything else that it might be? Just so I know my options?
