I would like to know the proper fluid level on the transaxel of 1997 Chev. Malibu 6-cyl 3100 engine. Is there a plug hole on the housing under the car or is it just the cap on the top. I have been told to fill up to top, but I am hesitant to do this. The owner's manual does not give this info.

What you do is put in 5 quarts to start with. Then start the engine and run it through all the gears but dont drive it yet. Then raise up the car and on the passenger side of the transmission is a plug sticking out towards the passenger side. Remove that plug with the engine running. When fluid barley starts to run out, the transmission is full. I think it takes 7 quarts on a trans. Filter change but I'm not 100% sure on that. Thats why I suggest starting with 5.
