I have a 94 chevy lumina 3.1 208,000. When I accelerate it hesitates and stumbles and sometimes it dies. While trying to give it gas it occasionaly backfires. I have changed fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, wires, egr valve, tps, idle air control valve, knock sensor, pcv valve and all vacuum hoses, crankshaft position sensor. It doesn't sound too bad when idling it just won't go anywhere. Can somebody PLEASE help me? I am thinking it might be the computer?

Does it shifts okay in every gear.

Did you check the ignition timing? Did you change the O2 sensor/s also the fuel pressure.

I recommed you get it scanned with or w/o code/s might tell you something, the PCM is your last resort.

It shifts just fine. The timing is good and I have changed the o2 sensor. It keeps coming up with a code 42 which I finally found out is the prom chip. I am going to change it and hopefully it will fix it

Get a helper-have him/her crank it up-when it dies immediately check for spark-got spark check the fuel pressure. You got to do this fast to catch it while on the act.

BTW did you check the MAP sensor

It is getting spark and fuel pressure. When I changed the computer then started it the check engine light came on for map sensor so i am going to change it this week. But when i test drove it it was acting like it did not want to shift out of first it would just keep reving up and would not shift and backfire. I tried to shift manually but it still would not go past first gear. Is there a sensor for the torque convertor or what could that be?

Try disconnecting the TCC solenoid and retest.
