I just put a new battery into my 1998 lumina sedan. It started up just fine, but when I put in in reverse, it didnt want to find the gears, so I backed up out of the driveway, had a hard time putting in in drive, and went to the gas station. I thought I put it in park, turned off the car and it started rolling. I tried to crank it again but it would not crank because it was not in park. What do I do?

I am not really sure how changing the battery could cause your gear shift linkage (i suspect) to get out of alignment. I have never looked at my linkage on my lumina but I have done it on other autos. There is a lever on the tranny that actually turns to give your gears. You need to disconnect the linkage (alos inspect it for bends) and manually put car in park. Make sure you have blocks in front and behind tires to make sure it doesnt move in either direction. Adjust the linkage accordingly and that should fix it.
