1997 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 121000 miles

I replaced the intake manifold gasket in my car 4 days ago. This morning when I started my car it was running rough and making a ticking sound. As I was driving the car had a "spongy" feeling. If I hit the accelorater hard then it would speed up. When the car is warm the sound goes away as does the spongy feeling. This never happened before the replacement was put in. They said they hoped that the bearings weren't damaged by the intake leak. Wouldn't they have noticed this when they were working on the car 4 days ago?
They also replaced my spark plugs, wires, and serpentine belt during the intake replacement.
What could be causing this problem? Thank you

They cant see the bearings when replacing the gasket. If the noise goes away it is probably a bad lifter. Try changing the oil again tomorrow.
