HELLO,

FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS MY CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING HOT. I KEPT REPLACING THE COOLANT BECAUSE I COULDNT AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED. NOW THE CAR IS EMITTING WHITE SMOKE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THE ENGINES IS SHAKING AND THE CAR SOUNDS AS IF IT IS ABOUT TO CUT OFF. AT ONE POINT WHITE SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM UNER THE ENGINE. PLEASE HELP ME TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR.

I have a 1990 Chevy lumina and it is doing the same thing. I am in the process of replacing the head gaskets now, I have been told that the white smoke is from the coolant burning. The head gaskets are basically the thing that keeps the fuel and coolant separate. Also it could be running bad because of the oxygen sensors getting a build up of smoke on them. On my car I need to clean the head cover because it is really dirty and has burnt coolant on it. The head gaskets them selfs are only about $10 each but the labor involved would cost a couple hundred.

Is your engine horizontally opposed?
