Engine Mechanical problem
1992 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive

I have to change the EGR Valve in my 1992 3.2 Chevy Lumina Sedan. It dies when the gas is not being pushed on It satrts up fine and drives fine. However if Im not on the accelerator it dies at almost every stop or slow-down. A mechaninc inspected my vehicle at a shop and said the EGR Valve has a lot of carbon buid up on it and needs to be cleaned. So I decided I would just buy a new one and replace it. I was looking for some guidance and direction on replacing it and avoid makling any mistakes. I have to do the OIL SENDING UNIT also, and wondered what problems it caused from bein faulty.

I'm going to guess the dying at intersections is being caused by something other than the EGR, especially if its problem is clogging. If not enough exhaust gas is getting through, you probably wouldn't notice any driveability problems, but your gas mileage would go down and you may get a check engine light. If it's stuck open, the engine may falter or die, but that probably would happen at times besides when you're at intersections.
