Wipers

I have a 2004 chevy Impala with a 3.4L. Engine and it has 38000 miles. I was driving home today and I turned on the wipers and after a while the drivers side started to go completely off the windshield. I stopped and had to push it all the way back down when I turned them off. How do I fix this? It has already started to scratch the paint off the door by the window. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Put them back in the park position and check the nut on the end of the wiper first and see if its tight if not tighten it and recheck, gms fix for people operating wipers when they are frozen to the windsheild and breaking the motor or transmission
