Instrument panel lights go dim 2000 chev. Impala

I have a 2000 chevrolet Impala v-6 3800 with 62,500 miles on it and any help out there on why my insrument lights go dim when it gets dark. All other lights work fine and the instrument lights work in the day time but when it gets dark or I cover up the sensor they go dim.I replaced the DRL relay and fuses are ok

Has it always done this? If it has, there should be a control where you can turn up the brightness of the lights, might be anti glare.

It has just started in the last month, it does no good to turn the knob to adjust brightness of the dash lights

I had the same problem with the same model.
I replaced the light switch. The one that you turn your lights on and off and dim your dash. Problem solved.
