2007 Chevy Impala key remote

My remote does not work, but if I manually unlock the car with the key then the remote will work until I lock the car and go away for a while and then come back and the remote will not work again until I unlock the car manually. I have changed the battery in the remote thinking it was that but no change. What could it possibly be?
