Sometimes when driving the temp gauge will start to rise and the heater will not blow warm air.

Sounds like it's low on coolant and getting air bound. Wait till it cools down and check the level, you could have a slow leak that your not aware of. Let me know how you make out with that.

I had put in coolant 2 days ago and it seemed fine, while asking about this yesterday my wife was out using the car and it overheated. She let it cool down and brought it home and while looking under the hood I noticed a wisp of steam coming from around the edge of the water pump. Looks like it was a slow leak and it's time for a new seal. Thank you very much for your advice, it was exactly the problem. If I need more help I know where to come to.
