My 1991 corvertte is hunting. When in drive holding the break the idle keeps dropping. It goes up and down. A mechanic say it is hunting. However two dealers could not fix the proplem. They did everything.

I have a 94 automatic that had the same problem. I replaced the EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation) and that cured the idle. The dealer mechanic put me onto this, of course he was trying to get me to have him do it. The valves are available from aftermarket suppliers (ecklers. Com) and it is not hard to change yourself. Just treat it like a spark plug change and be careful to not get gunk inside the engine when you taake the old one off. The new one should come with the gasket. This tends to be a prblem on cars that are not driven regularly, but daily drivers are not immune.
